We have to stress any opinions expressed by the sometimes controversial Mr Avivson are not necessarily those of Cannes in a Van… but his opinions and chat are always great so whatever is published here will be entertaining at the least. Every month, three emerging filmmakers are given just 30-minutes each to screen and talk about their films, providing a gripping insight into their background, ideas and filmmaking process. This month is no different.

Venice is not known for its roads, so screening films on the street from a Ford Transit van isn’t always easy. The Venice Lido is a strip of land with 12km of beaches, protecting the islands of Venice from the sea and elements. This is where the 70th Biennale di Venezia happens, and where Cannes in a Van pitches up.

The post Street Cinema at The Venice Film Festival appeared first on Cannes in a Van.

Our first day on the Lido began with a level of apprehension; it was to be the first time in Cannes in a Van history that we’d attempt to screen films publicly on the street for those at the 70th annual Venice Film Festival. Armed with the Official Selection from the 2012 Van d’Or Independent Film Awards and some newly submitted Italian films – our intention was to sit on the fringe of one of the worlds oldest and most [...]

The post Virgins of Venice appeared first on Cannes in a Van.

Over a thousand miles, traveling through six different countries, three blokes embark on a long and arduous journey, the destination? The 70th annual Venice Film Festival. Setting off on Wednesday 28th August from London, UK, we travelled to Folkestone to catch the Eurotunnel before speeding through France into Belgium. Onwards then to Germany, where we organized a film screening at a film academy in Ludwigsburg, close to Stuttgart. The sun was battling our plasma in the late afternoon so time came to [...]

The post London to Venice – In Transit appeared first on Cannes in a Van.

Cannes in a Van at VENICE FILM FESTIVAL
After 7 years of screening independent films in Cannes, the four-wheel film festival Cannes in a Van is making it's first-ever trip to The Venice Film Festival at the end of August. Along with screening The Van d'Or Awards 2012 Official Selection, there'll also be a clutch of Italian shorts selected especially for the trip.
If you have (or know of) an Italian-language (preferably with English subtitles) short film, music video, animation or experiment to enter, we'd love to hear from you.

The post Calling Italian Filmmakers! appeared first on Cannes in a Van.
