Idiot Songs // Villages of Ether (dir. Kevin McGloughlin)

As described by it’s director Kevin McGloughlin, this video for ‘electronic chamber music’ artists Idiot Songs, Villages Of Ether is ‘set in the subconscious. It interrogates what it means to recognise a difficulty in oneself. The video endeavours to depict struggles with anxiety and ultimately the elimination of self doubt.’

The director happens to be the brother of band member Pearse McGloughlin which might explain the synergy between the audio and visual elements. Clever compositing and motion design compliment live-action sequences creating an infinite time loop. The film narrowly missed out on the Best Music-based Film Award at the Van d’Ors, commended by the judges for its ‘beautifully surreal‘ approach. All for a budget of €25!
