The early morning was filled with the crashing boom of thunder leaving a pessimistic feeling in our stomachs. But for the first time since we arrived, the weather actually highlighted the south of Frances’ beautiful climate.
The four wheel film festival Cannes in a Van continues its quest for sun, celluloid and Spielberg and rain doesn’t stop play on the Côte d’Azur. More short films play from the Ford Transit Custom van and the heavens are open.
Insidious black clouds began to crawl over the hills of Mandeleiu and the rain grew fiercer. Instead of hiding away with our tails between our legs in the safety of our prefab home, we decided to brave the Croisette with True Brit spirit.
We spoke to independent filmmaker Alex Galvin about his new feature ‘Eternity’ (2013) a sci-fi mystery set in the near future.

Here’s the first video from our 7th annual trip down to the Côte d’Azur. It kinda sets the scene for what’s to come… Plenty of rain, rain, rain… oh and umbrellas.
You’d think that the south of France would be a haven of sun kissed beauty, at this point in time it isn’t, the rain has hardly stopped since the start of the festival and continues to wash memories off of the pavement. We’ve been teased with the promise of good weather and are yet to experience any vitamin D.
During the festival we’ll be screening the winners and nominees of the Van d’Or Awards 2012 alongside other independent filmmakers in Cannes.

The 66th Cannes film Festival has begun and Cannes in a Van is back on the road. From Thursday 16th May for the duration we’ll be screening independent films, music videos, animation and more right on the Croisette. Among this year’s films screening are the winners and nominees from the 2012 Van d’Or Awards for Independent Film. Those nice folk at Ford have been busy preparing our new steed for 2013. This is the first we’ve seen of our brand new Ford Transit Custom, now coated in our trademark signal yellow with orange trim. Although lower than usual (the high-roof isn’t in production just yet), we’ve prepared a special height-gaining add-on and our lo-fi projection system has been replaced with something a little more high-tech. Once in a while something comes along which just works. The Queen and James Bond, Magnum PI in Murder She Wrote (okay I’m struggling) and now pre-Cannes, Spielberg does funny. The prosthetics really are good. See you in Cannes Steve!
