Student Film In Transit 2013 Terms & Conditions

  1. Submissions for the Student Film in Transit Award must be from within European countries.
  2. Entry is open to students of any age who are undertaking a full or part-time course at a EU based university. Graduates may also apply (within 2 years of graduating).
  3. Entries for ‘STAGE 1 – Submitting your treatment’ must be based on a 6 minute short film, advice & guidelines on writing your treatment can be found at:
  4. Your submitted treatment must be written in English.
  5. Entries for the Student Film in Transit award must comply with the relevant terms & conditions of submission.
  6. Treatments should be submitted by the END of February 2014 by email to students@cannesinavan.com
  7. It is the filmmaker’s responsibility to obtain rights, clearances and permissions. Cannes in a Van (CIAV) assumes no responsibility for violation of copyright law.
  8. The submitting filmmaker must be directly responsible for the creative control and direction of the project. Collaborative efforts may be recognized and acknowledged, but only the submitting filmmaker will be awarded any applicable prize.
  9. The three completed films should be provided on DVD and hi-res digital file and should be clearly labeled with the title, running time, contact e-mail and the institution you’re studying at,  see Submission Guidelines for further details.
  10. The three completed films should be sent to Cannes in a Van, 1st Floor, 39 Coronet Street, London N1 6HD.
  11. Entry for ‘STAGE 1 – Submitting your treatment’ is FREE to students who are undertaking a full-time or part-time course at a EU based university. Those who are within two years of graduating may also enter.
  12. From the three funded and completed films, a winner will be voted for by the general public.
  13. Location, date/time and number of times film screened are at the discretion of the festival. CIAV will add the winning film to it’s 2014 season Official Selection and it will be taken to various film festivals across Europe and screened with Cannes in a Van.
  14. CIAV in no way guarantees the return of any entry and no guarantee is therefore expressed. Submitted treatments will not be returned due to the high volume of entries received.
  15. CIAV cannot accept responsibility for loss of, or damage to DVDs while they are on loan to us.
  16. Entries may be disqualified for the following: Inappropriate material / Incomplete application materials & documentation / Submissions on unacceptable media. In the case of disqualification, an attempt will be made by the festival staff to contact the entrant. This will allow an opportunity for the disqualification to be remedied.
  17. In the case of questions, disputes or misunderstandings, the decisions of the Directors of the Festival are final. No correspondence will be entered into with reference to this issue.
  18. Entrants shall indemnify, defend and hold the Festival, its agents and its representatives harmless from and against any and all claims, damages, costs, liabilities and expenses which may be incurred by reason of any breach of these representations, or arising out of any matter contained in the media or otherwise by the Festival’s use of the media.
  19. Participating in the film festival implies acceptance and understanding of festival terms and conditions.
  20. The final closing date for all treatment submissions is February 28th 2014. Entries must be received by that date or posted dated no later than 28/02/14 to be considered.
