The Van d’Or Awards 2012

The 2nd Van d’Or Awards for Independent Film went off with an almighty “…And Why Not?” as the the institution that is Barry Norman hosted a unique addition to the awards calendar. The ceremony took place inside Hackney House, a huge pop-up big top venue right in the heart of Shoreditch, London where nominees and eventual winner alike were treated to van-oven baked pizza and ice cream from our resident van Elsie. The place was filled with 350 people, a Ford Transit Limousine, the Cannes Van and a new model. The 5 Van d’Or Best Film nominees were screened on the big screen, the sides of the vans and throughout the venues AV network.

The audience was treated to musical interludes from up-coming vocal violin sensation Marques Toliver and mashup VJs Ithaca Audio while Barry’s own brand pickled onions were auctioned to the tune of £300 (going to Great Ormond Street Hospital). The night was a celebration of all that is independent creative filmmaking. Here are some of the highlights from the night…
