    Music-based short films are often difficult to categorise but that didn’t stop director Paris Zarcilla ploughing much of his own money into making this cinematic gem which took the Best Music-based Film award at this year’s Van d’Or Awards in September. Paris came down to November’s music-themed Screen Social in London and had a chat to us about the making and funding of the film.     A few weeks back, we hosted the first Screen Social to feature the new crop of films which make up the Official Selection for Cannes in a Van’s 2014 season. We also grabbed the filmmakers for a quick interview on the night. Here Louis Paxton talks to Screen Social about his experiences making Dollface, which won Best Comedy at The Van d’Or Independent Film Awards in September 2013. It interrogates what it means to recognise a difficulty in oneself. The video endeavours to depict struggles with anxiety and ultimately the elimination of self doubt.’

    KYASMA // Radioactivity (dir. Jean-Paul Frenay)

    This cinematic sci-fi thriller of a music video directed by Jean-Paul Frenay  (and funded by Swiss rock band Kyasma) tells the tale of a ‘looming crystalline disease’ that inevitably takes it’s toll on the promo’s main protagonist, played by Denis Carpentier. It was shortlisted for Best Music-based Film at The Van d’Or Awards 2013 and is included in the 2014 season Official Selection for Cannes in a Van. It’ll also be screening at the next Screen Social in London on Wednesday 13th November.
